about

Delicate and defiantly optimistic, Before the World Falls Apart is the debut independent release from North London based singer-songwriter Matt Tinsley.

After moving to London in 2001, having grown up in South Africa, Tinsley spent years playing sideman for all manner of bands and musical projects whilst quietly crafting something all his own.

Bringing together a tapestry of folk, americana & alt-rock, what began as a bedroom-recording project soon worked its way into the pubs and clubs of London, and its various suburbs & side-streets, where Tinsley found a ready audience for his tales of love and life. With a voice that is broken and hopeful in equal measure, Tinsley manages to craft songs that are hauntingly beautiful and deeply affecting.

Before the World Falls Apart reveals it's layers and subtle nuances with each listen.

From the stumbling, whiskey-fuelled despair of "Jack", to the apocalyptic lament of the title track, the listener is taken on a journey whilst the driving defiance of "Run Wasted" and cynical jaunt of "Stay With Me" showcase Tinsley's knack for witty and eloquent narrative

Before the World Falls Apart is something rare and beautiful: a musical treasure that manages to remain both familiar and exciting, whilst working its way deeper under the skin with each repeated listen.

Track Name: Run Wasted
Love takes me on a long and winding road
I don't know where it goes, I'm not in control
Pick me up from this place, before I fall and fade away
Help me out, give us a chance, before I fall and fade away

Run wasted, I run wasted
In the beauty of your peace, that is where I want to be

She says that she's scared, and God knows I'm scared too
This fear will kill us both, and steal our dreams too
Pick me up from this place, before I fall and fade away
Help me out, give us a chance, before I fall and fade away

Run wasted, I run wasted
In the beauty of your peace, that is where I want to be

I just want to run
Track Name: Stay With Me
There in the shop, you asked me if I got drunk
The other night, it was New Years Eve
Merry I was, but I wasn't wasted then
Not like you on every second day
I don't know how you keep up with the day job
When all your stories seem to end in amnesia

Stay, stay with me, is anyone going to
Stay, stay with me, is anyone going to
Love, love, love me
For real, or should I keep on drinking

Emma you know, you should take it slow
Nights like these, oh they can deceive
I wish you'd hear what God has said
Ooh you're precious
I don't know how you keep up with the day job

Cry Jesus, I'm desperate because no one else says they can do the things you say you can
Track Name: Jack
So you never go out, and you're always alone
And when your only friend is JD, but he's no longer around, since you lost your money

And the overcast skies, they rain on your broken heart
And the waters, they rush in, trying to heal your hurt, since you lost your lover

Oh hold on, you shouldn't go, try to stay
Don't let go, it won't always be this way
Can you see there, the sun is shining over you
Oh hold on, it won't always be, it won't always be this way
Track Name: Before The World Falls Apart
Before the world falls apart, let us reminisce
For the dying, those in fear, we give a final gift
Remember when we were young, before we had the eyes
To see the dying, those in fear, the world we live in now

I just want to go and play outside
Like I did when I was just a child
Safe inside two years of life
Faith, like that, means everything's alright

If you strap a bomb onto your chest, and say all your goodbyes
Or load a gun, and fly away
What difference does it make
Don't give up without a fight
Is this an irony
We are the dying, those in fear, this is the life we lead

Freely now, we've received and freely we must give
To the dying, those in fear, the light we so much seek
